The Hyper is our introduction of a high performance cam-free slalom sail. We watched
the heavy promotion of this type of sail with a keen interest as they seemed to do great
in strong winds, but fail in lighter winds, or marginal conditions. We have taken a
slightly different route in our design. Instead of matching the cam-free sail with a full
bore race sail which was twitchy and only powerful once it got on a plane, we added boom
length, and flattened the profile. The result is a sail that has much better "get up
and go" than other cam-free designs, and it feels much steadier in and out of the
gusts. High wind control has been maintained by 4 tube battens, and a slightly flatter
cut.These sails are super clean and will give the rash of other camless slalom sails a run
for the money at a better price.
The Hyper is new as a sail category, but also as our introduction of designer Trent
Pedersen of Hot Sails Maui New Zealand. Trent worked with Phil Smith during our
"XTR" years, and brings a fresh new outlook to the company.
