Hot Sails Maui
Race Series
The concept behind the Super Race is how the sails responds under
active load. We wanted to achieve a design that would allow the proper balance
of power/twist independent of rider size and weight. This requires the sail
to actively respond to the wind rather than using the sailor's strength
to respond to increases in wind load. The 1995 Super Race is an important
departure from the current world cup mentality of: Designing competitive
race sails around sailor geometry and ability.
Phil "Bugs" Smith, designer:
"It has always been my belief that it should be possible to produce
a sail which people of different weights and sizes can use to have equal
chance of achieving top level performance."
Thanks to Jessica Crisp, (60kg wringing wet), Hot Sails Maui has
been able to prove this theory with two consecutive PBA World Championships.
If you are into going as fast as possible, but don't weigh 220 lbs., find
out yourself. Beg, borrow, or steal a ride on a Super Race and you
will know what rocket science is all about.
